New features in LibreOffice 5.0


Since this is a major release, there are a huge number of changes. After all more than 25,000 bugs have been fixed in this release. Some of the major changes in LibreOffice 5.0 are:

  • Style previews in sidebar
  • Emoji support :)
  • Inline image editing
  • Engineering notation in Calc

  • Calc: complex formulas, new functions, conditional formatting

  • Windows 10 compatible
  • Basic editing is available for Android now

Install LibreOffice 5.0 in Ubuntu and Linux Mint


LibreOffice 5.0 has been released just a few hours back. Normally, you should start getting the newer version in few days in your Linux distribution. But if you do not want to wait for that, you can uninstall the existing LibreOffice and install version 5.0 using the official PPA for Ubuntu and Mint and elementary OS.

Open a terminal and use the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
